Monaco, Ph.D.

Regina R. Monaco is a theoretical chemist and Senior Research Fellow at CUNY/City University of New York, focusing on computational modeling of macromolecular bio-complexes and neural systems. She uses quantum mechanical computations to understand the molecular details of controlled ion transmission across cellular membranes. Her research career spans over five decades, including roles at Columbia University, NASA, The Santa Fe Institute, The City University of New York, NYU, and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Monaco has worked extensively on drug-DNA interactions, protein signaling, DNA dynamics, DNA repair, and prebiotic chemistry, and her work has contributed to advances in computational biophysics and theoretical biochemistry.
